What does it mean to be a lady in this modern world?
- Someone who always dresses properly?
- Someone who always behaves appropriately?
- Someone who has the perfect boyfriend?
- Someone who is great in bed?
After a drunken night of shenanigans Tessa stumbles home to an empty apartment, desperate to cure her loneliness and boredom she starts rustling through her collection of cassette tapes and plays one after the other – a collection of easy listening, jazz and country music as well as a few self help, hypnosis and yoga tapes. Suddenly she comes across a tape that reveals to her the rules of “How To Be A Lady”…

Adelaide Fringe Review Of "How To Be A Lady" By Michelle
The show is a series of skits that cover a range of topics including “self mastery” (just think Seinfeld and “master of my domain” and you’ll get the idea), marriage, sex and what it means to be a wife / home maker. Tessa does a great job of portraying what it means to be a lady in this modern world and the challenges of following the rules of what she is supposed to do versus what she really wants deep down inside in order to be happy.
The highlight of the show is really Tessa’s talent with slap stick / physical humour although I was disappointed that there wasn’t much talking and not much of an ending or a moral to the story.
If you’re a fan of the TV show Ladette To Lady or you just like random silliness then this show may be for you.
